How the net score is calculated

Net score = Correct × (Max ÷ Total) − Incorrect × (Max ÷ Total) ÷ 3

Example: a GS Paper I mock with 100 questions and 200 marks. You attempt 70, get 52 right and 18 wrong. Marks per question = 2, so 52 × 2 = 104, and the penalty is 18 × 0.6667 = 12. Your net score is 92.00, with an accuracy of 74.3%.

UPSC deducts one-third of the marks assigned to a question for each wrong answer, in both GS Paper I and CSAT. Questions you leave blank carry no penalty.

Frequently asked questions

What is MarksFlow?

MarksFlow is a free UPSC mock test score tracker that runs in your browser. You log each Prelims mock, it works out the net score with one-third negative marking, and it charts your progress over time.

How does MarksFlow calculate the net score?

It divides the maximum marks by the total questions to get marks per question, adds that for every correct answer and deducts one-third of it for every wrong answer. For a 100-question, 200-mark GS Paper I mock, that is +2 per correct answer and −0.67 (two-thirds of a mark) per wrong answer.

Where is my mock data stored?

Your mocks are stored only in this browser's local storage on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so clearing browser data or switching device removes them; use CSV Export to keep a backup.

Can I track CSAT mocks too?

Yes. Set Total Questions to 80 and Max Marks to 200, and MarksFlow will use 2.5 marks per correct answer and deduct 0.83 per wrong answer. Remember that CSAT only needs 66 out of 200 to qualify.

What mock score should I aim for in UPSC Prelims?

There is no official target, but the official General category cut-off ranged from 75.41 (2023) to 92.66 (2025) between 2020 and 2025. Many aspirants aim to score consistently above the recent cut-offs in full-length mocks.
