Title Case rules used here
- The first and last words are always capitalised.
- Small words (a, an, the, and, but, or, for, nor, as, at, by, from, in, into, of, on, over, per, to, via, vs, with) stay lowercase in the middle of a title.
- A word after a colon, full stop, question mark or new line starts with a capital.
- Words already in capitals, like UPSC, ISRO or GDP, are left as they are, unless your whole text is in capitals.
Key facts
- Title Case capitalises major words; Sentence case capitalises only the first word of each sentence.
- camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case remove spaces and are mainly used in programming and web addresses.
- Changing case does not change spelling or punctuation.
Tips and common mistakes
- Fixing text typed with Caps Lock on? Use Sentence case, then capitalise names by hand.
- Style guides differ. Some capitalise prepositions of four or more letters (With, From). Adjust a word or two if your college or publisher follows a specific guide.
- Names are tricky. Automatic Title Case cannot know that "iPhone" or "McDonald" need special capitals.
- Hindi and other scripts have no capital letters, so they pass through unchanged while English words around them are converted.
Frequently asked questions
What is Title Case?
Title Case capitalises the first letter of each major word, as in The Lord of the Rings. Short articles, conjunctions and prepositions such as a, an, the, and, of, in and to stay lowercase unless they are the first or last word or follow a colon. This tool also keeps acronyms such as UPSC and RBI in capitals.
What is Sentence case?
Sentence case capitalises only the first letter of each sentence, like normal writing, plus the pronoun I. Everything else becomes lowercase, so check proper nouns such as names and places afterwards.
What are camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case?
They are ways to join words without spaces. camelCase capitalises every word after the first (studyPlanTracker), snake_case uses lowercase words joined by underscores (study_plan_tracker), and kebab-case uses hyphens (study-plan-tracker), which is common in web addresses and file names.
Does Title Case handle apostrophes and hyphens?
Yes. Words with apostrophes are capitalised once, so don't becomes Don't and it's becomes It's, not Don'T. Each part of a hyphenated word is capitalised, so well-known becomes Well-Known.
Can I undo a conversion?
Yes. Press Undo to restore the text exactly as it was before your last conversions. This matters because converting to lowercase cannot recover the original capital letters on its own.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. All conversion happens in your browser. Your text never leaves your device.
